The BMW M cars occupy a useful middle ground in Dallas. They are quick enough to feel like an event, civilised enough to drive to a meeting in Las Colinas, and they do not draw the crowd that a Lamborghini does when you park at the office. For a lot of our Dallas bookings, that combination is exactly the point.
M3 Competition and M4 Competition
Both use the same twin-turbo straight-six making just over 500 horsepower. The M3 is the four-door: rear seats you can genuinely use, a boot that takes real luggage, and the better choice for a business trip or a family weekend. The M4 is the two-door coupé: the same engine and the same chassis, with a lower roofline and more presence.
In practical terms the decision is about doors and nothing else. They drive nearly identically.
What they are like on Dallas roads
The metroplex suits these cars better than it suits a low-slung exotic. Speed bumps, parking garages and the long straight runs of the Dallas North Tollway and the President George Bush Turnpike are all easier in an M car than in a Huracán. Ground clearance is normal. Visibility is normal. You can park it at a restaurant in Deep Ellum without a crowd forming.
Then when you get out past Fort Worth toward the Hill Country roads, it still has 500 horsepower.
Who rents them in Dallas
