South by Southwest turns central Austin into a different city for ten days in March. If you are renting a car for it, most of the standard advice does not apply: the hotel you booked may be inside a road closure, the car is not how you get to a panel, and the supply of exotics is gone before the lineup is announced. Here is what actually matters.
Book in January, not March
SXSW is the second-biggest week of the year for exotic rental in Texas after the Formula 1 Grand Prix. Regional supply is finite and it tightens fast. By the first week of March what is left is what nobody wanted. If you need a specific car, a particular Lamborghini for a brand activation, say, the time to book is eight to twelve weeks out, and the same is true of the Ferrari Roma, which is the car brand teams ask for second.
Downtown is closed, and that changes things
Large parts of downtown Austin are closed to traffic during SXSW, and what is open is gridlocked. Red River, parts of Sixth Street and the area around the Convention Center are effectively pedestrian. Two practical consequences. First, delivery points move: we coordinate a handover just outside the closure zone, on the east side or south of the river, rather than at a downtown hotel door, and we confirm the exact spot the day before. Second, a supercar is not how you get to a panel. It is how you get to the things that are not downtown: the Hill Country, Lake Travis, the east side, and the parties out at the ranches in Dripping Springs and Spicewood.
What gets booked for SXSW
Two distinct groups. Brand activations and production crews, who want something photogenic parked outside a venue for a week: usually the Lamborghini Huracán EVO Spyder, the Urus or the Ferrari Roma, and increasingly the Mercedes-AMG G63, which photographs well in a street and seats a crew. And attendees who want a car for the days either side of the conference, which is where the Corvette C8 makes far more sense at roughly a third of the cost, or the BMW M4 if the plan involves parking garages.

The published Austin rates apply; there is no festival premium. A week-long booking, which is what most brand teams need, is priced about 30% below the daily rate.

Delivery, a daily mileage allowance and comprehensive insurance are included. For a car that will be staged outside a venue rather than driven, tell us: a static booking has different logistics and we price the mileage accordingly. The refundable hold scales with the car, from $2,000 on the Corvette to $5,000 on the exotics.
Delivery during the festival
We deliver curbside at Austin-Bergstrom (AUS) with your flight tracked, and to hotels in Rainey Street (edge of the closure zone; we confirm the spot), South Congress, East Austin, Westlake and the Domain. During SXSW we confirm delivery windows rather than exact minutes, because the traffic makes precision impossible. Brand teams that need the car at a venue at a fixed time should book a chauffeur or a staging service with us rather than plan to drive it through downtown themselves.
The days either side
If you are in town for the full ten days, the best use of the car is the weekend before or after: Loop 360 past the Pennybacker Bridge at golden hour, Ranch Road 2222 along Lake Travis, or the Devil's Backbone out past Wimberley. Requirements
You must be 21 or older with a valid driver's licence, proof of full-coverage insurance that extends to a vehicle of this value, and a major credit card in your own name. International licences are accepted with a passport; tell us in advance so we can confirm before you fly rather than at the curb. A refundable security hold, scaled to the car, is placed on your card at handover and released after the return inspection.
