What to know about Fiesta week

Downtown is closed to traffic for the Battle of Flowers parade on the Friday and the Flambeau parade on the Saturday night; Broadway through Alamo Heights closes for the Battle of Flowers route. The river parade is the Monday before. Hotels on the River Walk and at the Pearl sell out months ahead, and the valets at Hotel Emma, the St. Anthony and the Mokara see more Lamborghinis in these ten days than in the rest of the year. Fiesta is the peak but San Antonio has a long season. The Stock Show and Rodeo in February at the Frost Bank Center fills the G63, the Escalades and the Urus for three weeks. The Spurs playoffs in April and May. The Valero Texas Open at TPC San Antonio, up by Stone Oak and Cibolo Canyons, is a Porsche and Cullinan week. Lackland graduations are every week of the year. The River Walk lights from late November through New Year are the quiet luxury season: the Roma, the Maybach, a weekend at the Pearl.

What you need

21 or older (25 for the Lamborghinis, Ferraris, the McLaren and the Rolls-Royce), a valid driver’s licence, proof of full-coverage insurance that extends to a vehicle of this value and a major credit card in your own name. International licences are accepted with a passport. The deposit is a refundable hold on the card, taken before delivery and released after the return inspection; the amount depends on the car and is confirmed in writing before you pay anything.
